Music Ministry

Don Peterson, Music Director
Don Peterson
This past month we resumed our weekly choir rehearsals that provide anthems and hymns for our traditional service. It always is slow in starting back up after 6-8 weeks of summer vacation. School activities, homecoming festivities, football games, high school band rehearsals and many community events keep all of us very busy. After a month or two our routines begin to fall into place as we all enjoy cooler weather and the start of fall. For the past twelve years I’ve encouraged the members of our congregation to get involved with the music ministry program of our church. A lot of you have stepped forward but as the years have passed we have lost many to either death, retiring or moving out of the area. We’ve had excellent choirs during these twelve years but it is time to seriously recruit new members for our Chancel Choir and Joy Ringers. I’ve approached many people in our church about becoming part of this important ministry of our church but have had very little response. Singing in the choir or ringing a handbell is more than musicianship, it it also commitment. When we join the Methodist church we commit ourselves to supporting it with our prayers, our presence, our gifts and our service. Some people have told me that they haven’t sung in a choir since high school and college but that was when you were probably getting a grade for it in school. Church choirs are different. They are fun and I don’t give grades. If our church is going to continue with a traditional service we need to focus on recruiting new choir members to ring and sing. Remember the song, “All God’s Children Got a Place in the Choir”. We need you.

A reminder letter has been sent out to our Lampasas Community Cantata Choir members and any people that have shown an interest in singing in our Christmas cantata. Rehearsals begin Wednesday, October 4th at 7:30 p.m. in our choir room. The cantata this year is The Song Heard ‘Round the World by Joseph M. Martin which will be presented on Sunday evening, December 10th at 5:00 p.m. If you wish to join the cantata choir this year please contact me at so I can prepare a voice part CD and music book for you.

I have an announcement to make. Our daughter Rebecca will be getting married in our church on Friday, October 27th at 6:00 p.m. in the sanctuary. After all the years of playing the organ for weddings I am now seeing firsthand what the father of the bride goes through. Keep us in your prayers as we celebrate this joyous event. God bless.
